Model Selection

  • Virtual Workshop Zoom link sent 3 days prior to workshop Where You Are United States (map)

Often, researchers have too many variables for their statistical model, need to have a clearer idea of which variables contribute the most to the research question, or are not sure that model selection is even the correct approach to take.

By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify different methods for choosing the appropriate model including testing based and criterion-based approaches

  • Understand when model selection is not necessary

  • Explain tools used for model selection, error identification, and information criteria

  • Combine methods to find the model that best fits their situation

  • Interpret and explain model selection approaches, overfitting, and uncertainty

  • Conduct model selection using statistical software (free and paid)

The cost for the workshop includes individual 1:1 coaching during the intensive to address your specific situation, limited-time access to session recordings, hands on learning with the software you have available (SAS, STATA, SPSS, and R; other software negotiable) time to work on an analysis of your own in the setting of your choosing, and two 1-hour sessions (or one 2-hour session) after the workshop for follow-up coaching (usable by December 15, 2025). Attendees can obtain longer term assistance after the workshop concludes (at cost).

If you’re interested in registering, send me an email (link below) to reserve your spot! Only 16 spots will be made available!

*This workshop is held in collaboration with Easton’s Nook, a fantastic writing and retreat house that provides a warm, comfortable, beautiful space where scholars, artists, and activists can meet, and can pursue their work individually or as a part of small, supportive, collaborative groups.
